Safe2Report: Protecting Schools, Protecting Futures
School should be the safest place for every child — yet, across Nigeria and much of Africa, students, teachers, and communities face daily risks ranging from bullying and violence to abductions, cultism, gender-based violence, and infrastructural neglect. Many of these incidents go unreported due to fear, stigma, or lack of accessible reporting channels.
Safe2Report, an initiative of the Edugist Education Foundation, is a civic technology platform and advocacy project designed to make schools safer, more inclusive, and more accountable. It empowers students, teachers, and community members to anonymously report safety incidents in real time, while providing data-driven insights for policymakers, education authorities, and civil society actors.
Our mission is simple yet transformative
To ensure that every learner has the right to a safe, secure, and enabling learning environment.
Why Safe2Report?
Rising Insecurity in Schools
Nigeria has recorded several tragic incidents of school abductions, violence, and safety lapses in recent years. According to UNICEF, over 11,500 schools were shut down between 2020 and 2022 due to insecurity in Northern Nigeria alone.
Silenced Voices
Students and teachers often lack safe, confidential channels to raise concerns about safety, harassment, or abuse.
Weak Accountability Systems
Students and teachers often lack safe, confidential channels to raise concerns about safety, harassment, or abuse.
Safe2Report bridges this gap — turning fear into a voice, reports into data, and data into safer schools.
Our Approach
1. Anonymous Reporting Platform
A digital platform where students, teachers, and parents can report issues such as:
- Bullying and harassment
- Sexual and gender-based violence
- Infrastructure collapse and unsafe facilities
- Kidnap or security threats
- Teacher misconduct
- Drug abuse and cultism
Reports are confidential, accessible, and action-oriented.
2. School Safety Situation Room
Based in Lagos, the Situation Room aggregates reports from across the country, analyses trends, and produces safety dashboards that can be shared with government agencies, civil society groups, and education partners.
3. Advocacy & Policy Engagement
Safe2Report works with policymakers, ministries of education, and school administrators to:
- Influence safer school policies
- Integrate reporting systems into education management structures
- Promote accountability and transparency
4. Awareness & Empowerment
We run campaigns, training, and dialogues — including the Safe2School Podcast and Education Dialogue Radio Programme — to raise awareness on school safety and build a culture of protection.
